If extending faster service to a particular area/residence is not deemed worthwhile by Qwest, I'm not sure why AT&T would do it. <shrugs> Provisioning a home with cable/DSL service costs a company money. If they do a cost/benefit analysis and determine they can't make their money back, they're not going to provide the service. What would the incentive be? > Businesses are more concerned about bottom line and less about civic > duty these days. I wish I better understood why people feel that businesses have some sort of higher calling than making a profit. I *do* think it's great if a business wants to step up and spend money for the Greater Good. I guess I'm just uneasy about a business being coerced into doing something simply because it's felt that they "ought to." There seems to be a strong sense of entitlement these days and I don't understand where it suddenly came from. If cable/DSL providers were obligated to give service to everyone, regardless of how much money it cost to provision them, they would be out of business in a very short time. Either that, or you and I could look forward to paying for other peoples' broadband when we pay our own b-band bill. Of course, we're already doing that right now. Drat.
