can't have that, either, unless you buy a rackmount server, and hey,
whattya know, Apple sells those too! (and cheaper than Dells, too,

easier for
people to build their own Macs.

They need to make money. This is how their rather astute leaders have
chosen to do so.

No, so you can do it *cheaply*. Lets at least be honest here.
You're not comparing Apple to Dell, you're comparing it to Joe's
Computer Factory & Bait Shop garage businesses. Apple hasn't been
that since the Apple I. That is the ONLY Apple you could ever just
buy the 'motherboard' for.
FWIW, you've NEVER been able to just buy a Dell motherboard. (aside
from a very expensive replacement part)
You can buy any number of intel-based motherboards, but your goal is
to buy as cheap hardware as you can find then run OS X on it. This is
fine, lots of people want this, but don't pretend it's the salvation
of Apple to do this...the ONLY reason this works in the PC world is
that the OS and hardware are separated, and MS has such a huge near-
monoply.
