Hey, guess what? If you want a Dell with 8 internal drive bays, you
can't have that, either, unless you buy a rackmount server, and hey,
whattya know, Apple sells those too! (and cheaper than Dells, too,
once you pay the Windows Tax.)

If wishes were horses we'd all ride like kings. Apple is a business.
They need to make money. This is how their rather astute leaders have
chosen to do so.

No, so you can do it *cheaply*. Lets at least be honest here.

You're not comparing Apple to Dell, you're comparing it to Joe's
Computer Factory & Bait Shop garage businesses. Apple hasn't been
that since the Apple I. That is the ONLY Apple you could ever just
buy the 'motherboard' for.

FWIW, you've NEVER been able to just buy a Dell motherboard. (aside
from a very expensive replacement part)

You can buy any number of intel-based motherboards, but your goal is
to buy as cheap hardware as you can find then run OS X on it. This is
fine, lots of people want this, but don't pretend it's the salvation
of Apple to do this...the ONLY reason this works in the PC world is
that the OS and hardware are separated, and MS has such a huge near-
monoply. >>

Well, Im trying to compare Apple to what can be done on common x86 hardware.
Me using Dell as an example obviously confused things. And as far as the
reasoning to wanting to build my own Mac easily, honestly, price has NOTHING to
do with it. From what I understand, building your own PC isnt'y signifigantly
cheaper that buying one built already. What I like is being able to choose
exactly what parts to use. For example, Im a big fan of SCSI, Im more than
willing to pay for it, but does Apple give you an option for no ATA drive? I
dont
think so. So, my wanting to build my own Macs is purely my urge to make a
custom computer. Yes, I CAN buy a G5, and put what I need into an ATX case.
But then I'd have a G5 case and IDE hard drive left over. Thanks for the laugh
though, Joes Computer Factory and Bait Shop, thats a good one. The only thing
is I'd like the name to be Chris P Macs (get it, burned to a crisp).
