G'day Clark

Some of that model eMac didn't have built in modems.

From MacWorld.... http://www.macworld.com/2003/08/reviews/1ghzemac/

OS Compatibility: Mac OS X (models with CD-ROM and Combo drive also boot into OS 9)

From EveryMac..... http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/emac/stats/ emac_1.0.html

The eMac series ships with an ice white Apple Pro Keyboard and Mouse, and can be configured with either MacOS 9.2 or MacOS X v.10.2 as the default operating system (The version with the SuperDrive could only be configured with MacOS X v.10.2, and cannot boot into earlier versions of the MacOS. Custom configurations were also available.

Does yours have a superdrive? If not, you probably need to install 9.2.2 as a separate OS in order to boot into it.

Regards

Santa

And what, you ask, was the beginning of it all?
And it is this......
Existence that multiplied itself
For sheer delight of being
And plunged with numberless trillions of forms
So that it might
find
itself
innumerably
