on DVD burners in G4 towers.....need advice as to
brand....
I currently have a MicroAdvantage 4x DVD burner in my
G4 tower running OX 10.4 and it works well. It plays
DVD's with Apples software; Toast 5, iTunes recognizes
it, copies. I actually am using this Sony Firewire
case which was originally for a 8X CDRW. I had
previously used this same DVD burner in my Beige G3
which also worked well: mounted, booted, burned;
although, 3rd party DVD's did not work in Classic,
unless you used a patch which kind of worked but not
without occasional problems.
I have found that you never know what will work till
you try it; suprisingly many off brands work well. Any
CD or DVD burner, I buy, I always tried it in my Beige
G3, even though it was for a PC just to see if it
works. Lite on products have always worked for me but
I've never used a Lite On DVD burners. Pioneers do
work but they can be pricey. I only paid $39 for the
MicroAdvantage and have had it close to 2 years.
