Say WHAT? That's just bull. Gateway is now the University's primary supplier of PC systems, and we've been buying them since 1995 here in the College, I've worked on hundreds over the last ten years.

Again, I call bull. We've replaced out-of-warranty power supplies with off the shelf parts in a lot of Gateways.

That's the keyboard extension cable, and those tabs are to ensure that the cable doesn't come apart easily. And for crying out loud it's freakin' $1.99 USB cable...

And Compaq hasn't required special "Compaq" memory since the first 386 systems hit the market.
