But that's a good thing right? The more people using OSX the better?

Yes, but...

I'm not so sure... ¬_¬

I mean, Windows is everywhere you go, right? How has that necessarily
"improved" it in any way?

Monopoly + Greed == slower technology development.

Personally, I'd rather see OS X about where it is now in terms of market
share for two reasons:

1) Less attractive target for black hat hackers. And, yes, I know that
"security through obscurity" isn't supposed to work. Be that as it may, the
more widespread a given OS is, the more attractive a target it is simply
because the potential is there to affect more systems.

I disagree with that. The kernel of X is a far more secure design and implementation than MS'. While I believe the rise of the anti-virus market for OS X is inevitable, I don't see the insane number of holes (or their related flood of exploits) ever happening.

2) Snob Appeal. Yes, I know this sounds terrible, but right now, when
someone tells me they're running X, it indicates to me that they "know what
they're doing" because they've taken the time, effort and money to do so.
If X is now able to run on kreppy x86 boxen, someone saying that X is their
OS of choice is just not that impressive any more. To me, anyway. [shrugs]

LOL.

3) Showing a Mac to a Windows User is a *violation* of the Prime Directive!

The gourmet vs the gourmand.

There is a distinct advantage to having the lemmings use that other OS. It keeps them out of our way, so we can get real work done. And, perhaps more importantly, it keeps an awfully large number of people employeed.

Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
And despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.
