For business graphics, a low end color laser ($300) will be better than=20=
a low end inkjet ($100).

Why would you compare these? The natural practical thing is to compare things of similar price?

Because the initial cost is only part of TCO. That $300 laser is, in the end, cheaper to own and operate than the $100 inkjet.

I mean what would you consider the better deal: a $500 car that ran on $200/gal fuel and got 5 MPG, or a $15000 car that ran on $2/gal fuel and got 25MPG?

Well, if you only drive a couple of miles a day and trade cars every three years........ :-)

Seriously, we own a b&w laser for all of our everyday stuff and an inkjet simply for photo-grade prints. When we need to replace the laser, it will be with a color laser and the inkjet still reserved for printing photos. Using inkjet for general print is only cost effective if your printing is very limited.
