Why would you compare these? The natural practical thing is to
compare things of similar price?
Because the initial cost is only part of TCO. That $300 laser is, in
the end, cheaper to own and operate than the $100 inkjet.
This is still not the best and manifest reason.
I mean what would you consider the better deal: a $500 car that ran
on $200/gal fuel and got 5 MPG, or a $15000 car that ran on $2/gal
fuel and got 25MPG?
I understand what you are saying but it is still better not to
introduce an unnecessary variable. A $300 inkjet might be more
economical than a cheap $100 inkjet. It may not be. It may be. I
don't know for starters and had a niggling doubt. By comparing a $100
product with a $300 one one is not quite clear if the price has
something to do with the quality being compared (print quality,
running costs, overall expenditure). Yes, I know that a dramatic
point could be made by having the price difference. But it was not
clear.
