Hello to all.

I purchased a G3 450 chip from a B&W and received it today. I changed the jumpers for 450 and the Mac boots but freezes after showing the desktop. Went down all the way to 266 ---the original speed of the motherboard-- and it also freezes. Any hints? Beyond of course that I should have gotten an accelerator instead of a plain CPU. The CPU was theoretically more fun.

Did you change any other settings except for multiplier? Like bus speed or pci speed? A zif from a B&W should work with no problems in a beige, I have a 350 (slightly overclocked) in one that has given me no problems at all. Are you sure the B&W zif is good?

There are 2 types of accelerators for beiges. One is just a zif like you got and had to adjust the jumpers on the motherboard and the other, like Sonnet, iirc, deals with the bus multiplier on the card that the processor is on. What you got from the B&W is the same concept that OWC sells, just a zif where you have to set the jumpers manually.
