I've finally had it with my ISP, after waiting 11 minutes for it to load up my home/email page! ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). I live in far northern N.Y.

Make sure you're not just suffering a domain name server bog/failure. Those are easily fixable to changing to a different one. Verizon's are quite reliable; 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.

If the problem is actual connectivity ... I've seen a lot of slow page loads recently too (Comcast in S.Jersey). Turns out there were some recent critical line cuts. Until those circuits are repaired, the NSPs involved have had to reroute a lot of IP traffic - which has overloaded other circuits.

I'd appreciate any leads as to a decent ISP. Does anyone have experience with SMUG (Syracuse Mac User Group)? How about experience with NetZero - and/or their High Speed version?

First, make yourself totally ISP independant by shifting your email and any personal web site to a 3rd party. Gmail, Yahoo, HotPOP, etc. Or if you want a premium service, try netaddress (usa.net).

As for an alternate ISP... I'm not fond of NetZero. Earthlink is great. A local ISP is often best tho.

FWIW,
- Dan.
