I'm not sure what Windows formatting options you get with a Mac. Can it format a drive as NTFS, for instance?
The consensus in the Windows world is to use NTFS to format NT, Windows 2000, XP, and Vista boot disks. You can't use NTFS for DOS or Windows 98/95/ME. You can't even read NTFS disks under those systems without extra software. I found this article, which says that OS X can't read or write NTFS disks without some help: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/11/19/ntfs-on-your-mac-two-ways/ My own inclination is to format a Windows disk using Windows, and even to format a disk intended for Windows 98 with Windows 98, and not with Windows 2000 or XP. I once used Windows 2000 to format a drive as FAT32, then copied a Windows 98 system to it, and it would not boot. When I formatted the same disk under Windows 98 and copied the same system, it booted fine. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
