Subject: Re: Why are you (still) using PowerPC-based Macs?

Sorry, I came late to this thread.

Original question - "Why are you (still) using PowerPC-based Macs?"

Multiple answer(s):

1) Wife won't let me buy a Mac Pro - she thinks things like housing, food etc
are a priority.

2) Even if wife were in agreement with idea, bank manager wouldn't be.

3) Using Office2008 (of necessity) and Adobe CS3 under Leopard, it works as
well as it ever did. Sure, the Mac Pro would be faster, but that doesn't mean
my dual 2.0 G5 has suddenly slowed down overnight. Unnecessary expenditure of
£2,000+ would not be a great idea right now, and any extra speed is not a
viable return on my spending cash I don't quite have.

To enable my working from home when my employers upgrade to CS5 on its
anticipated release later this year, I might have to rethink. (Before I get
flamed, Adobe permit activation on two machines if not used simultaneously, and
I'm never in the office AND at home at the same time). If this situation DOES
arise, as it's in my employer's interests for me to have a working from home
capability, I shall see what I can do to make them assist in the upgrade. (I'm
2.5hrs from work, so an extra trip in at weekends is not lightly undertaken).

Until that happens, why would I need to upgrade?

I agree that YMMV

Ted
