To clarify - there might be a hack that lets an older OS boot on that hardware. But I *strongly* don't recommend doing it.

The minimum recommended/required system contains the drivers and *power manager* changes required by that hardware. The wrong power manager code, or worse - a power manager and firmware mismatch, could end up frying your laptop. It's just not worth the risk, IMO.
