MA is smart enough to not move over older versions of Apple apps.

Seriously, you're overthinking this, bigtime. Wipe and restore your MB, then transfer your data during setup. MA is quite smart enough to manage the complexities involved.

Even if you have to update some programs, all the settings, prefs, etc will be in place.
