These beasts are power hungry, I believe the power supply can be 800w or greater, the final G5 had a 1 kw power supply I think? When you add together the cost of the power supply, and the extra electricity used by the G5, it's possible you could accomplish the same computing with a newer computer that uses less power? It's a tough call.

Blast you... excellent points clearly made. (thanks!) I have to be carful trying to weigh the available crop of recent-used vs new machines and what the useful computing power per buck ratio might be. The G5 is easily enough for needs for a while yet, It's like trying to keep or repair a truck with 200k on teh clock.
