Thunderbird, and Mozilla Navigator before that has also always done that, on 
Windows or Mac. I've never had the misfortune to have to use OutPuke, only pat 
user's hands sympathetically when it puked and lost all their email or 
mysteriously corrupted their profile database irretrievably.
