something similar was done with westside story musical, the lyrics I feel pretty and witty and gay and I pity any girl who isn't me today, was changed to I feel pretty and witty and bright and I pity any girl who isn't me tonight.

Hi Dark,

Yeah, I quite agree. I don't think they should have stopped selling
the book because of that one word. Main reason is that the word slut
didn't mean what people think it does today, and there are a lot of
words that have changed over the years which someone could take
offense over. Even though the meaning in context is totally different
from what they think it means.

For example, I recall a controversy at a Michigan school two or three
years ago over the song Deck the Halls. The controversy was over the
words "gay apparel" and if that was to be considered offensive
language to gay and lesbian students. So they wanted the words changed
to something less offensive.

The problem I have with that controversy is that it is so stupid and
ignorant I don't know why anyone would take that so seriously. At the
time Deck the Halls was written the word gay meant something totally
different from what people think of today. It meant happy, bright, and
had nothing to do with a person's sexual orientation. All that needed
to be done is explain the meaning of the word in its original context
and problem solved, but no some dingbat parent wanted the word gay
removed from the students music books and replaced with a modern
version with the words "happy apparel" or "bright apparel."

In any case I agree. One person taking offense over a word etc is so
silly. It is what is wrong with society today and makes it difficult
for song writers, authors, game developers, or any other type of
career in the entertainment industry because it is far too easy to
upset someone and have your work barred from being sold or someone
trying to sue over it. It is absolutely crazy any more.
