Yeah, the ability to fire your own units or buildings could come in handy at times. I think the unit blindness thing is something like this: When you order an unit to go somewhere, it calculates the shortest and straightest path. And when something is blocking the way, it doesn't realize that it should go elsewhere and just keeps on trying. This is what I think.
