Hi.
Personally, I love my laptop for journies, ----- in fact I'm sitting on a
train for a couple of hours right now!
Provided I turned the wireless modem off, I was also fine using it on the
plain going to and from egypt, ---- and with two batteries fully charged I
can get a good six hours out of it. It also has on all games I usually
play.
while it's not literally hand held, and a trifle bigger, i've never had
too much trouble using it wwhere I like, ---- even perching it on my knee
if need be.
for this reason, i'd very much recommend you get a laptop.
Beware the grue!
Dark.

Hey everyone!
I regularly have to take transatlantic flights, and would love to have
some accessible kind of handheld game to play to pass the time. I can't
turn on my phone, even if I had a smart phone, which I don't, to play the
latest games for that. Playing games on my Netbook, if I disabled the
wireless of course, would seriously shorten the battery life. So what do
I do. Read, listen to music, my brain is half dead with boredom on the
twenty-four hour journey, including time lag, between the U K and
Louisiana. I sure wish we could have some kind of talking, hand held game
you could plug headphones into! My Momma once said to me, if wishes were
roses, the world would be a garden! But I'd be sure interested to hear
any thoughts on the subject.
Lulu.
Now faith, hope, love abide, these three. But the greatest of these is
love.

What trivia games can a blind person run on what devices that a blind
person can operate? Thanks.

also, I'm afraid that I don't particularly see the attraction of having
a hand held trivia game.
Not because I don't think trivia could be fun, but there are many
accessible trivia games available already which you could run on a hand
held.
I'm not sure about Jim kitchins because of the sapi issue, but I
believe those from 7-128 do, and using websites like freerice would be
no trouble at all.
Beware the Grue!

Hi,
I extremely doubt it. For a couple of very good reasons.
First, companies, Hasbro included, usually aren't too receptive when
someone comes along asking for accessibility features. Especially,
when those accessibility features will cost them lots of time and
development. What you are in a sense asking them to do is throw away
the product they have spent x amount of time and money researching and
developing, rewrite the new firmware for that unit with text to speech
support, create a new rom, and then sell an all new accessible
version. Unless there is a really compelling reason to do so they are
likely to tell you "forget it!"
As far as someone else doing it that's just not likely either. I'm a
skilled programmer, I assume they wrote the firmware in C++, have a
vague idea how they created the trivia game, but the firmware is
likely stored on a rom chip. In order to make this little unit talk I
would have to create my own firmware for the unit, from scratch I
might add, create a new rom chip, and replace the existing one with my
own rom. This is some serious hardware and software engineering we are
talking about. Nothing as simple or straight forward as installing
Jaws or Window Eyes on your computer to make it talk. Totally new and
different ball game here.
HTH
we are talking about.
