Shaun, I.E. 9 can easily be disabled by unchecking it in optional updates under Windows 7. However, given the fact that most applications use ribbons, most browsers have multitabbed browsing, browsers have a separate download manager window, etc most of the features in I.E. 9 you'll probably want anyway or will have to get use to using eventually.
