2.8 is not targeting only squeeze so that wouldn't be a reason not to
change it.
But I don't know if there's going to be another 2.8 release, and this is
definitely not a bug, but only a future-proofing change (the option is
deprecated, so it's correct not to use it, but it's still there and
working) so I agree it should to to 2.9 (ask aehlig if he's OK with it,
given that 2.9 as well is already stable) or maybe even to 2.10, but not to
2.8.
