Martin,

I was under the impression that we were close to finalizing the new features/fixes for 2.5.8. Several of them have been floating around for a while and I really feel like the rug has been pulled from underneath me. Anyone who runs Ganglia on Solaris will know how I feel. When I realized that these upgrades didn't make 2.5.7, I was very disappointed. Minor releases should occur more frequently than major ones.

Hi,

personally I also was a bit surprised about the move into 2.6.0. I
would have liked to see a 2.5.8 with the few remaining bug-fixes and
Solaris using "kstat". No metrics rearrangements (we could have added
Linux/cpu_wio at the end of the list) and no fancy new confugation
options. Not sure whether unicast would be possible on that base.

And then there should have been a branch-point in CVS for a potential
post-2.5.8 release stream. Not sure whether we can get that now,
without new massive CVS problems/restructuring. In any case, we should
not forget a branch-point when Matt really goes into the future of
Ganglia (embedded web-servers and so on. that is 3.0 stuff !!).

Otherwise I am pretty happy that we have 2.6 going. Just get a first
official release out soon to catch the bugs and get feedback about new
features.

Cheers
Martin

Well, I personally think you should continue your development on the
next major version. 2.5.x is pretty stable. If someone wants to
maintain it, I would think Matt would be glad to let someone support
2.5.

I feel that if you spend alot of time maintaining 2.5, or bouncing
back
between 2.5 and 2.6, the context switches will slow you down. There
are some features coming up that I really need - like the reduced
network traffic.
