I would suggest that there should be three components to this:

1. a gardeners-announce mailing list;
2. a news page on the gardeners site; and
3. an RSS feed that planet.lisp.org can pick up.

Either (1) or (2) could drive the remaining two.

  I agree, communications are very important.  Why not syndicate the same rss feed on common-lisp.net and cliki?  The owners would probably be willing, and it solves the problem that beginners may not find our site first.

  Hi, by the way!  This is my first post here.  I'm not new to Lisp at all, but I think this is an important endeavor and I'll help with it if I can.

  Another thing which I think is big is having a single central repository of software - something others have mentioned already.  CCLAN already exists, but looks to be unmaintained.  It has some nice infrastructure for mirroring across servers, that seems worth keeping; could gardeners take over the maintenance?  It would also be nice if there were a web page with descriptions of each package, something like what common-lisp.net does now but for all programs, not just the ones hosted on CL.
