As for speed traps, the motorhome has cruise control and I always set it for at least 5 mph below the speed limit, 10 mph less in some circumstances and conditions. The GPS also gives my current mph along side the speed limit, so it's easier to keep up with changing speed limits. Ther GPS also monitors traffic congestion on the route ahead, predicts time delays and warns if route detours are needed before we are caught in traffic jams. 65 mph is about the max I drive, mainly for concerns about fuel mileage. The motorhome is very stable at much higher speeds, but costs go up exponentially past 65 mph. You also don't want to get into a hard, panic-braking situation. All that stuff behind you in the motorhome can catch up with you fast. :) Before anyone asks, I'm happy if we get 6.5 mpg. At 75 mph, we would approach 5 mpg. This trip will cover 5,549 miles. 6.5 vs. 5.0 mpg is the difference between 854 gallons and 1,110 gallons on this trip. At $3 a gallon average, that's an added cost of $768. I'll try to keep our fuel costs at $2,500, or less. Speeding really doesn't pay when you're driving a motorhome. That's what the Firebird is for. :) A.
