I don't know why anyone should be surprised about the last 2 games, look at
programs similar to UF that have undergone a coaching change and radical
shift of the style of play.

Nick Sabin lost to Louisiana Monroe his first year at Bama, went undefeated
the next year until the SEC title game, won the NC the 3rd year.

Bob Stoops - was very average his first year, 7-5, 6-6 type of team, won the
NC his 2nd year.

Urban Meyer - got clobbered by Bama and LSU his first year, won the NC the
2nd.

I'm not saying or predicting a NC next year, but Muschamp has to install his
system, get a few of his own players, weed out any undesirables and
establish his imprint on the program, that doesn't happen in 10 months,
simply based on history of other coaches who were established, much less
their first job.

It will help that the other 2 major programs in Florida are also down right
now, Miami is likely headed for NCAA troubles, which will keep them down for
awhile. FSU fans have resorted to calling Jimbo Fisher - Jimbo Zook. IMO FSU
has internal problems, I've been told that Fisher has more control of the
Athletic Dept than the AD, he basically is calling all the shots with
respect to budgeting, fund raising, etc..your basic dictator.

We have talent at UF, but not the overall talent that Bama and LSU have, one
thing that shows up by playing Bama and LSU is they expose all your
weaknesses, especially with a true freshman at QB.

With all changes there is a transition, the worst thing than can happen now
is to start trying place blame or question coaches, let it play out, in year
3 if we are losing to bad teams like Zook's 3rd year then we make changes,
but until then, let's relax and see what happens.

I think the biggest problem is lack of depth and lack of experience... of
like 70+ players... 60+ are Freshmen and Sophmores... thats.. alot. Its not
that Bama and LSU are necessarily better... they just have more experience
and more bodies to put in. Thats gonna take Must-Chomp a few years to
build.

We had the athletes that would work in any system. OL in the pros pull all
the time, that isn't the issue. The question is are the guys left just not
that good, or are the coaches not putting them in a favorable situation?

If you look at the Florida players in the NFL over the last 4 years, you
will find playing in the spread translates very well. Of course, this
brings up the question about the D...

I've always heard playing on an offensive line in a spread attack is MUCH
different with all the pulling and different blocking schemes one must do vs
playing in a NFL scheme. I would think there were NFL quality O-Linemen we
would have missed out on getting, as they would have skipped us for schools
running a more traditional offense.

I don't know the answers to these, but it seems every one is questioning the
talent Meyer left UF with. I was floored after reading Bianchi's latest
column. I'm a fan, not a "football" guy.

Running backs... definitely.

O-lineman... cant really say its 'hurt us".. because.. and I forget which
announcer said it... the kind that we were recruiting before just dont fit
the power running game style that Muschamp is trying to build... they simply
are not big enough. its gonna take time.. Marotti has got alot of work cut
out for him because he's gotta change bodies to fit what they want to do on
offense now. Trey burton gained what... 30 lbs in the offseason to prepare?
And he still may not be big enough.

I understand.. and I think its safe to say alot of us feel the same way. I
dont want to put all the blame on Meyer.. but when he took his little leave
of absence... that killed us in alot of ways. Regardless of what the
rankings say... we havent done all that well in recruiting enough bodies to
fill needs and build depth. I mean... look at Clemson.. SOMEHOW.. they
always manage to steal running backs out of Florida... how they are able to
accomplish that is still mindblowing to me.

Don't get me wrong, at the beginning of the year, I looked at these two
games as likely losses. I'm not upset that we lost, but rather the fact we
weren't competitive.

And as for recruiting, i know stars mean squat. My point is, we were
recruiting the same guys as everyone else. Did we just happen to whiff on
all the really good 4 and 5 star players? And in return we got a bunch of
over-rated slugs? I don't follow recruiting all that close, but I do know
that UF commits tend to be dropped in recruiting rankings, so you would
think we would have more 'diamonds in the rough' than other teams. I also
know that we have had a larger than normal attrition (will provide analysis
later), and that has left us short on upperclassmen for leadership and short
on scholarship players for depth (we have fewer scholarship players than
USCw who is on probation).

I don't mind the losses, and I understand the injuries, all part of the
game. It is just very disappointing to me that we are 3 years removed from
a national title and we have to rebuild.

Gator) what he thought the score would be on Friday.. and I think he said
something like 14 pts... and my response to him was "you think they'll score
a TD?". This is a young team... we have no depth/experience. None of
this is much of a surprise to me really.

My thoughts are a combination, but I put most of the blame on the coaches.
UF has had top ten ranked recruiting classes the past five years, and the
players we got were also considering the other good programs.

weight on the recruiting rankings/stars... even Urban has said they havent
proven anything yet after his #1 recruiting classes. Fine... your supposed
to be good.. maybe the best. Prove it.

Its going to take time... I prepared myself for this very very early in the
season. It makes my heart hurt everytime they lose especially so the way
they last these last two games. Chris Leak had SOME playing time and
arguably had a better/deeper O-line going in to face LSU than what Brissett
had. I didnt see but the last 45 seconds of the game... but you cant
blame/point fingers at him. No one expects the #1 and #2 QB to be knocked
out of the same game. Thats an abberation.

As for the defense... so far.. we are still ranked 4th in Defense in the SEC
(they said on the radio today)...

It all kinds of weather my friends... we're gonna have to be patient... and
stand behind them regardless.

this simply growing pains or is the coaching not getting the job done? Can
it really be that we are that far behind LSU and Bama in skill and player
potential?

My thoughts are a combination, but I put most of the blame on the coaches.
UF has had top ten ranked recruiting classes the past five years, and the
players we got were also considering the other good programs. Or were the
recruiting rankings really a mirage? While the 2010 class was good and many
of those players are starting or significantly contributing as sophomores,
the 2007-2009 classes look somewhat suspect in hindsight.

I understand that the players were recruited for the spread, but really, we
wouldn't have been close to these two teams running the spread either.
Isn't it the coaches job to modify the system to fit the personnel? Great
we want to run the pro set I, but can't, so maybe we need to run a hybrid
pro set spread. And don't get me started on strength, we don't even begin
to match up.

My biggest concerns coming out of these two games regarding coaching are:
- bad play calling. Yes I know Weis is a genius, but I think he outsmarts
himself sometimes. Last night, reverting to the spread, run Burton twice
and then put the true freshman in to throw on 3rd and 13! Was he channeling
the dazzler? Overall, I believe he is coaching like he is in the NFL.
Coach for field position, play conservatively and and wait for the other
team to make mistakes. Works in the no fun league due to parity, but not in
college where there are too many mismatches week to week. You have to be
aggressive and keep the other team on it's heels.

- lack of fundamentals, particularly on defense. Coach Dawg is defensive
genius, but we can't seem to get lined up right, have too many penalties and
for goodness sake can't tackle. Big hits are fun, but if the guy with the
balk doesn't go down, they are useless.

- composure. From CD and his rants to the seemingly emotionless play on the
field, we can't seem to find a good mix. CD needs to tone down a bit
(although two beat downs made him nit so demonstrative yesterday), the
players need to amp it up a notch or two. Once again, I think part of this
is the NFL influence. Our mantra of nameless faceless opponents and go out
there with a professional, business like attitude. The college game is
emotion based and thrives on rivalries, manage to that, don't shy away from
it!

I understand we have a lot of young players, but I also see older players
who make plays hut don't get many opportunities like Gillisle. If we don't
start playing and coaching better, this will be a very long season. I felt
coming in 8-4 was the baseline, and we can still reasonably do hat or
better, but the way we are losing hurts. Not being competitive sucks, I can
handle a 14 point loss, being down 14 in the first 8 minutes doesn't make
for a fun day.
