I not only understand your position: I share it fully.  If the time ever
comes when this front-end really becomes a burden and/or it bit-rots,
then I will gladly kill it with my own hands.

In the meanwhile the front-end has already introduced at least two new
people to GCC development, so it could be argued the balance is, at
least for the moment, positive ;)
