Seems more likely something went wrong earlier, while making configure-target-libjava; config.status is supposed to create blank dummy dependency files to get the build going. Any trace of that earlier failure? Does running "rm .deps/gij.Plo && ./config.status Makefile depfiles" in the failing directory regenerate .deps/gij.Plo with the content "# dummy"? > on x86_64-apple-darwin10 with 'make -j 8'. Oddly, after the failed bootstrap, > if I just use 'make' > the build completes successfully. The .Plo files are generated as a side-effect of compiling the .o files, so one of the "unfinished jobs" was presumably busy compiling gij.lo which is a target that there is a separate pattern rule to cause to build. So next time you compiled, the required .Plo file was already there. cheers, DaveK
