I think this is pretty good idea. Now I have add a function into shapelib files, which can read a geometry from shapefile directly, not through OGRFeature, and I have copilated shapelib into GDAL, then, in my applications I will include shapefil.h and use that fuction to read a geometry. so it is very fast!
