They are one of mine too..I guess that would explain why I've somehow managed to be over run by them.
I had the same thought, the females have higher nutritional needs....though the age thing I don't think has entirely the same effect. I've Keyserlingii's that range from a few months old to a few years and even the older females are more active then the young males. But at least the males make it easier to clean their cage since they aren't already out trying to get your attention...well..at least not until you annoy them....then they think it's war.
