It's unbelievable, but I tried running multiple geeqie session using truss, and I did not see the lock-up problem. I then tried multiple tests without truss and everything is working just fine. Now, I did run this same test a few days ago before posting and did experience the problem. So I'm not sure what is going on. I did not recompile any software and I'm still running under the same gnome desktop session. So I will have to monitor the problem and see if it occurs again. If it does, I will try to trace it. Also, I am shocked to see that the User Comment field in the Exif data is now reporting properly. I am unable to locate an image file that shows a corrupted string. I apologize for the previous confusing reports. I will monitor both issues and see if I can identify further problems. I do have an additional comment. I see that there is an Exif field called Image Description that I have never used, always placing my descriptive info in the User Comment field. On the Properties->Keyword tab, the Comment box is tied to the Image Description metadata. It would be great if the Comment dialog could be linked to either of these two descriptive fields so that the user has control over where they wish to place their comments. I would assume that most people would be using either one field or the other, so a toggle in the Preferences would probably work. Otherwise, you might consider adding another edit dialog to the Keywords tab and allowing both the Image Description and the User Comment fields to be edited. Related to the Comment/Description field, this is often a long string that scrolls off the screen when the Exif Data window is displayed. I think it would be great to add an optional very thin horizontal bar below the image and above the bottom toolbar that would allow one or the other of these fields to be displayed for the loaded image in a small point size. I think that this should adhere to the image window so that if the screen is split, each image area would have its own description bar. Thanks again for all the good work on this program.
