If the root cause of your power failure is generally going to be a
hurricane (I'm assuming here), isn't solar a possibly bad choice? You
would have several days of no real sun.

Now, wind power may be the way to go here! :)

You should do a OLPC box that runs off wind power and demonstrate it to us.
