Hi Gary,

If you have support, you can contact [email protected] to discuss best
solution for the corrupt index files. Personally, doesn’t sound like
expiration of your license was the case of the problems. You are talking
about restoring the database, do you actually mean from backups? In that
case, it may differ with which version it was made, including win vs. unix,
32 vs. 64bit. If there is a mismatch with your current installation,
upgrading your installation to v5 probably won’t help..

You could upgrade to MarkLogic v5 by either completely removing v4.2
entirely (so including deletion of the entire install dir, after
uninstall), or by upgrading to latest of v4.2 first, then migrating to
latest of v5. If you just delete the data, which is an option, then upgrade
to the latest of v4.2 first, to make sure all things like app services and
such get migrated correctly to v5.

Kind regards,

Geert

The MarkLogic log files are huge and contain mostly errors. I’m wonder if
there is any hope of restoring this database on v4.2 without having a
backup available. The database was not being monitored for a while and the
temporary license had been expired for some time.

Here’s a couple of the errors:

2012-05-03 11:10:14.861 Critical: CacheListStorage::load: XDMP-CORRUPT:
read F:\Program
Files\MarkLogic\Data\Forests\NetVisn_EFBIProd\00000044\ListIndex: File
corrupt, searchKey=0x4e7d0e7a6de3a83e, offset=271842356, nbytes=24640

2012-05-07 00:08:41.062 Critical: Indexed32FileSequentialReader::read:
XDMP-READ: F:\Program
Files\MarkLogic\Data\Forests\NetVisn_EFBIProd\00000031\TreeData: Invalid
read, checksum, position=521772824, key=0x0007054e, hdrWords=3,
datWords=131, checksum=0x7011c100, computedChecksum=0x3e6971c0

If the database is unrecoverable I’m thinking of upgrading to v5. Should I
just uninstall v4.2 and delete the MarkLogic\Data directory before the v5
install?

Thanks for any advice,

Gary Larsen
