Thanks for the feedback on this issue. I've setup 15 to 20 servers in the
past 6 months and never had any problems. I can see how hardware errors may
be the problem but would expect to see lower level messages like would
happen with Java. Will tell the client that this might be a problem.

For this particular case there will be a fresh install of MarkLogic version
5.

Subject: Re: [MarkLogic Dev General] Log errors

When I've seen errors like those, the root cause has always been an
unreliable filesystem. This could be due to a filesystem bug, but that is
very rare. More likely it is a failing disk or a bad cable. So I would make
an effort to track that down and resolve it before proceeding.

The next step is to update the license key. Until you have done that, the
server won't allow any updates.

The NetVisn_EFBIProd has probably lost data. Those XDMP-READ errors in
TreeData mean that some fragments won't be recoverable. But if the
filesystem corruption isn't too bad, a forced reindex might recover some of
the data. Again, I would not try that until the underlying storage problem
has been fixed, and the filesystem has been repaired.

At that point if reindexing doesn't sound attractive and you would rather
start over, you could clear that forest in the admin UI. That will delete
all the suspect forest data, without touching the server configuration.
Deleting F:\Program Files\MarkLogic\Data is more drastic, and will also
delete the server configuration. If you do that, be sure that you have a
backup copy of any configuration data you want, and the new license key.

solution for the corrupt index files. Personally, doesn't sound like
expiration of your license was the case of the problems. You are talking
about restoring the database, do you actually mean from backups? In that
case, it may differ with which version it was made, including win vs. unix,
32 vs. 64bit. If there is a mismatch with your current installation,
upgrading your installation to v5 probably won't help..

entirely (so including deletion of the entire install dir, after uninstall),
or by upgrading to latest of v4.2 first, then migrating to latest of v5. If
you just delete the data, which is an option, then upgrade to the latest of
v4.2 first, to make sure all things like app services and such get migrated
correctly to v5.

there is any hope of restoring this database on v4.2 without having a backup
available. The database was not being monitored for a while and the
temporary license had been expired for some time.
