Thanks Raul, I had tried that too, but alas no luck.  (It is odd that 
Command-F1 does not work, but as I have a Touch Bar MacBook it requires also 
holding down Fn key to display the Fn keys (so 3 keys).
You can set the Fn keys to be displayed “per app” (in my case Google Chrome for 
the browser), but that was unsuccessful too.

Perhaps someone on Mac could advise if able to use Ctrl+F1 using some other way 
?
It would help if such shortcuts were available universally for the entire 
audience.
