Rob, I assume in both your examples you mean Ctrl+F1, not just F1. Ex1 seems to work in both Term and Edit, but sometimes in Edit the Vocabulary page seems to timeout in Chrome, but not in Firefox. Ex2 works in Term only and only if I add a space to the right side of the expression and position the cursor to the right of the space.
I am using an old Mac with OSX 10.11.6 . Also, btw, in the Shortcuts I usually have all the Ctrl+F1 through F7 checked, but to check your question I removed the check from F1.
