Thanks Brian.. this was checked (as “^1” in Shortcuts) to turn keyboard on/off, 
set by default somewhere, so I have unchecked, but still get no reaction.

Can you please confirm are you able to use Ctrl-F1 (or equivalent) to invoke 
this function on an input line ?
Eg1:    F1 to show Vocabulary where Focus is in Term or Edit ?
Eg2:    2 3 4+/i.5 (Ctrl-F1 then shows the word formation)

If you have it working on Mac then I’ll just withdraw my question and try to 
identify what this is (but so far no luck).
