To make a long story mort short, I've just purchased the 3rd Edition
(coil-bound) from Lulu. Was it written in LaTeX? One final question:
I also tried to purchase the download version at the same time as the
coil-bound version so I could have the book now, but the listed price of
$9.22 translated to the full price of $52.00 at checkout. Is this an
error? Anyway, the coil-version is in production and will soon be on
its way. I will also get the download version if the $9.22 price is
eventually correct.
I believe you can buy the download version from the perfect bound page.
Not sure why the download on the coil page does what it does. I will
take a look after class. I actually set the manuscript in Word. I've
never gotten good with figures in Latex. Maybe I need to master that
next.
includes substantially more material on image processing and automata
(so there is one more chapter).
A table of contents may be found at

It is available perfect bound (recommend this to your library)

or Coil bound (if you want it to lay flat -- I will recommend this to
my students)
