Hello Randy,

thanks for asking. My problem was to remember that dyad x /: y uses
x as data and y as control information other than normal J verbs.

Now I have seen the reason for it, I hopefully remember it for the rest of my J career.

Regards, Markus

Hello Markus;

Are you asking how to remember which is which? Or is there a difference on another axis?

The question has been answered already. The mathematical convention is too important. Thus minus - , divide %, less -. , element e. and by the way Matrix divide % have the
conventional arguments and differ from the J rule:
"x are the control information - y are the data" as expressed in JfC.

But so far I have not seen the argument, why the sort /: and \: behave different. When writing code I quite often make mistakes here, so a good argument would help to remember.
Thanks,

Markus
