It means existentialism, which can also be expressed as Data Set
Ready. 

Absence of the DSR signal is often, but not always caused
by a faulty cable or just a bad connection at the plug.

It's possible that your modem has died, but mess around with it, try
another cable, and try your modem in another computer before you write
it off.  I just tried Genesis with the modem switched off, and got no
error message, just a the dial window with nothing happening.

This is because the writers of manuals have to conceal some of their
acronyms from you or you would know as much as they do. They have to
keep reminding you that they are superior.
