Jude,

In the vm I installed, I used the x86_64 hand book and was able to get a 
working system with orca and mate desktop using ubuntu as an iso .  The only 
thing I had to do was insure the espeakup was enabled using systemd. I also had 
to raze the volume up but the system runs fine.
