Effectively I've got vm status since the install went on another unused
disk on this machine.
I went with openrc and no desktop.  I installed a binary kernel and it
will be interesting to see if this works once I figure out why emerge
assumes no separate kernel partition.  dracut configuration when it came
in was masked and I used dispatch-conf on it to what effect I do not know.
