Users like me want to beat the crap out of catalyst and chew up genkernel.

Id prefer PROFILE="little-linux" ARCH="x86" TARGET="/mnt/cf" emerge system
This way I can create system profiles for different solutions. When I
want to upgrade a system I would be able to do emerge sync on the
build system and rebuild an updated system by profile.

I don't agree. I am far from a toolchains expert, fairly new to
uclibc, and majorly ignorant to the challenges involved with cross
compiling, or what glibc has that uclibc has left out, but the
developers have been more than inviting to entertain some of my ideas
listen to problems I create or problems I find that they've created.
These developers are certainly not restricting the development of the
project. If anything the portage project seems to be restricting alot
of the ideas and desires that the embedded guys seem to have for
portage's future.

uclibc or bust!
