The biggest issue I saw with 2.4/LVM was partitioning the disks. Putting LVM partitions on the drives gave me strange results from "fdisk -l" but they seemed to work fine.
This was on an U30 with an external disk array (2 x 18GB) and a 9GB internal as root and boot. The LVM partitions were on the external array.
