My preferred method is to emerge the ebuild file itself:
emerge /usr/portage/somedir/mypackage-x.y.z.ebuild
Then edit the /var/cache/edb/world file and change
somedir/mypackage
to
>=somedir/mypackage-x.y.z
Works great.
Thanks for that, it's useful when you emerge your own custom ebuild but don't want to have to keep putting it in the portage tree (cos I like the tree to clean :)
