Sure, I just booted into the console only, no X. ps aux showed me some services were running, but I have no clue what they were all good for. If someone is interested I can post it. By the way, I observed the same harddisk suspend problem on my minimalistic debian installation with ext3 file system. Can you successfully spin down your harddrive (hdparm -S...)?
