The terminal in X just blinks the cursor when trying to input a
character like "alt gr+0" which is "}". I don't have a glue where to
start searching.

Ok... this was not a keyboard problem. I got that fixed in rc.conf by
commenting the following line.
#CONSOLEFONT="default8x16"
