Hello,

i want to share an idea.

Normally when you upgrade an old package the complete source-archive is
downloaded from a server. Afterwards it is unpacked, compiled and installed.

This way is efficent for smaller source archives but not for bigger ones.

What about only downloading diffs (if available) and applying it to the older
version. This would reduce download times on client side and load on server
side. Ok - there must be a method to decide when it's better to retrieve a
complete package.

I think this would be an enchancement to the emerge process.

Your thoughts ?

regards
   Petric Frank
