This is what I do when I'm trying to figure out what is dragging in a bunch of weird dependencies. Add the following line to /etc/portage/package.mask. If the file doesn't exist, create it.


sys-kernel/development-sources

When you figure out what's causing that one, try replacing that line with other things that emerge is trying to drag in.
