I'm not sure what Compaq/HP considers "legacy" USB... possibly USB 1.x? In any event, the only thing I've had the opportunity to test is a 16MB keyring flash card creature that came free with my laptop. Gentoo recognized it and loaded the appropriate modules, making it appear as /dev/sda. I was able to mount it and copy files back and forth, which was the extent of my testing.
